Dr Shan Yu Su of China Medical University (Taiwan)

Dr. Su Shan Yu is a distinguished physician, researcher, and educator in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with a particular focus on women’s health, fertility, and gynecology. She received her M.D. and D.M.S. degrees from China Medical University (CMU) in Taichung, Taiwan, in 2010, and completed her pre-doctoral internship and residency at China Medical University Hospital (CMUH). Dr. Su currently serves as an Attending Physician in the Department of Chinese Medicine at CMUH and as the Director of the TCM Gynecology Division. She is also an Associate Professor at CMU and now a faculty member at the UK Taiwan Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (UKTATM).

With a reputation as a fertility expert, Dr. Su specializes in addressing complex gynecological and obstetric conditions through the use of TCM, including Chinese herbal medicine and Master Dong’s acupuncture. As a third-generation disciple in Master Tung’s Acupuncture Family, she brings a unique depth of expertise in utilizing this advanced acupuncture system to support women throughout various stages of their reproductive journey, including enhancing natural fertility, supporting assisted reproductive technologies, and improving postpartum recovery.

Dr. Su is a passionate educator and an integral part of UKTATM’s teaching team, where she shares her expertise with practitioners worldwide. Her teaching interests include TCM Diagnosis, TCM Oncology, and TCM Gynecology, with a special emphasis on fertility and postpartum care. She has gained international recognition for her ability to integrate traditional methods with evidence-based practices, providing students with the tools to achieve exceptional outcomes for their patients.

As an editor of the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Dr. Su continues to contribute to the academic advancement of TCM. Her research focuses on the effects of Chinese medicine and acupuncture on women’s health, including reducing surgical rates in uterine fibroid patients, alleviating side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in breast cancer patients, and promoting traditional Chinese postpartum care. Her publications in peer-reviewed journals include groundbreaking studies on the role of dietary therapy and TCM in fertility enhancement and menstrual health.

Dr. Su’s clinical interests extend to improving overall well-being and quality of life for women through weight management, dietary therapy, and holistic approaches to health. She frequently presents at international conferences, sharing her insights into the synergy of TCM and modern medicine.

Now part of the UKTATM faculty, Dr. Su is dedicated to mentoring practitioners in fertility care and empowering them with advanced skills and knowledge in TCM. Her contributions continue to inspire and shape the future of Traditional Chinese Medicine on a global scale.
