About Taiwan MaKuang Hospital Healthcare Network
Our partnership with Ma Kuang Healthcare Network gives students an amazing chance to experience one of Taiwan’s most respected and well-established Traditional Chinese Medicine networks. Founded in 1990 in Magong City, Penghu County, Ma Kuang is named after its hometown—"Ma Kuang" meaning "in the glory of Magong."
Since then, Ma Kuang has expanded to over 34 clinics across Taiwan, Singapore, and China, blending classical Chinese medicine with modern, well-organised clinical systems. Their clinics specialise in everything from acupuncture and herbal medicine to gynecology, pediatrics, trauma care, and stroke rehab—all with a patient-focused and structured approach.
This collaboration means UKTATM students get front-row access to real clinical settings, learn directly from top Taiwanese doctors, and see how tradition and innovation work hand in hand at one of Asia’s leading TCM networks.

It’s not all hard work…
While the lectures and clinical observation form a core part of the Taiwan trip we also want students to get a feel for the culture surrounding the practice of Chinese medicine in Taiwan.
You will get an opportunity to visit the Chinese Medicine Museum and learn about the history of the medicine we practice.

A trip to the renowned Sun Ten factory is a fantastic way to learn about herbal medicine supply chains and how to ensure the herbs you prescribe are of the utmost quality. Students will see how herbs are sourced, processed and manufactured into finished products and how quality is controlled through organoleptic and analytical methods.
Explore Taiwan
Students will also be taken on excursions around beautiful Taiwan, from the famous (and delicious) night markets of Taipei to the stark beauty of Taroko gorge and the beautiful coastline of Hualien, as well as the Taiwan Botanical Gardens, Sun and Moon Lake, The Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Taiwan National Museum. Activities that are available to students during their stay include Chinese language classes, calligraphy classes, Tai Chi and Qigong.
